What did I just read!? Claire Cullen is a hit or miss for me, I loved her Siren Coven series, enjoyed River Den Omegas, liked The Lost Pack, and did Non liked her Briar Wood Pack. So, is been a rollercoaster for me when information technology comes to Ms. Cullen. This book had no essence, it was manifestly and lifeless. Nosotros take Hawk who is handsome and noble simply we don't get much of his background - except how he grew upward understood by his grandpa and misunderstood by his begetter. He was part of the armed forces and was injure - just we don't become more than that. He presents himself equally cold on some occasions, understanding in others simply I didn't run across love being expressed from him.
Jesse has no backbone, is submissive and tranquility with a past of exact abuse and sold by his father. He displays an attraction to Hawk but is not something conceivable - mostly is convenience and concrete attraction at a level.
The relationship was very patently, no real passion or dearest - I only read is as 'hey you're an alpha and I'm an omega in heat, permit'southward leap on the bed.' Too that, the whole heat was very lame, and then when Jesse is evidently meaning a month later, Hawk is like 'well is definitely someone else'south babe, no manner is mine, look at the belly' like no 1 here has heard of twins or multiple babies.
There is too the introduction of characters from The Lost Pack, now, you don't demand to read The Lost Pack simply is based on the same universe. The Lost Pack has so many characters than even I who read it a few months agone (if I remember correctly) was completely lost when all these characters were re-introduced.
I would have loved to see more of Hawk and Jesse's human relationship. Virtually of the fourth dimension Jesse was so bad-mannered, naive and didn't understand things, he was more lost during the whole book than really connecting with someone such as Militarist. The story felt very flat in everything, at that place was so action, no plot twist, no bad guys - NOTHING also a male child trying to understand why his belly was so big, a human who didn't know shit, a blood brother who wasn't even invested in his role, and everything in between.

I didn't realize going into this book that information technology was spin-off of the Lost Pack serial. I actually enjoyed this book. I loved both Jesse and Hawk and thought they were neat together. All in all a great start to a new series and I'k looking forward to reading more than.
I actually enjoyed the start of this serial. Information technology set up a great foundation of what'due south to come. I did have a few questions left, like what became of H'southward dad? And did H and J ever get their papers? I don't know if it will go answered in the adjacent volume since information technology's about a new couple. I loved the couple and their journey to love only wish we got to take more. Like did they ever officially mate? Great writing good story astonishing side characters
Jesse and Damon are both simply so injure. Then Hawk was then cleaved. He and Jesse are perfect together, it just took Hawk so long to figure it out.
So, here's the deal: Four stars, merely a review full of complaints.
Basically this is exactly what it looks like and I always capeesh it if what you see is what you go: a solid guilty pleasure comfort read that keeps y'all happy without requiring whatsoever encephalon power. Fluent writing, sort of stereotypical characters, simply with enough work done
This is kind of hard for me to rate. I enjoyed it a lot while I was reading, but as soon as I end to really think about the plot, I take a bunch of complaints. So, here'due south the deal: Four stars, simply a review total of complaints.
Basically this is exactly what information technology looks like and I always appreciate information technology if what y'all see is what you become: a solid guilty pleasure comfort read that keeps you lot happy without requiring whatsoever encephalon power. Fluent writing, sort of stereotypical characters, only with enough work done to be interesting, tragic backstory that allows for a lot of hurt/comfort, some drama and action, just with piece of cake 100%-happy solutions.
Now to where I have complaints - mainly because I hate wasted potential.
Firstly, this looks like a new serial and it sort of works every bit a standalone, simply actually it'due south more like a spinoff to the Lost Pack series, ready in the same world and with quite a few cross-references and character appearences.
My best estimate is, that the author has written so many shifter omegaverse stories by now, that the groundwork info is crystal clear in her head and she simply forgets that the reader cannot read her heed, just only what'southward actually in the story.
It'southward been some time since I read the other series and I only vaguely remember the details, simply I exercise think complaining about a lack of globe building even and so. Well, there's basically nothing here.
I didn't go how the formation of a pack actually works, which requirements have to be met, if information technology can be conciously forced or prohibited by a potentially founding alpha or what. I didn't get why packs have go so rare and why people don't desire them any more and think badly of them when they were common but one or 2 generations ago and people really recall all the good stuff from that fourth dimension.
I didn't get why at that place are and then many different shifter species, when at the same fourth dimension information technology doesn't seem to have any upshot on the person, their personality, behaviour, civilisation, needs, etc. I didn't become why there is not a single woman to exist seen ever, when female babies exist. I didn't get if in that location are nonshifters in this world.
I didn't get why people can identify 1 another equally blastoff, beta, omega on sight or even smell, but not their blazon of shifter. I didn't get why at that place are betas at all, when merely aphas and omegas ever seem to mate. The list goes on.
The actual plot is half finished in a lot of places. Jesse has run from a shitty bonding arrangement, his mate/captor even comes looking for him, but is driven away...and nothing. Maybe he gave up after that, since he's never heard from once again, but there is no clear solution to that plotline either. Damon seems to exist getting involved in some shady business with a local lowlife and an illegal fighting ring...and nothing ever comes of that either. The local sheriff requires special treatment via broiled appurtenances as bribery to do his job or mayhap not be an asshole, I didn't quite get that either, only that plotline fizzles out equally soon as it is mentioned as well. The just plot element that was really followed through on is the romance. That function was generally well washed, but after a squeamish slow buildup it of a sudden jumps from bones trust to true dearest in one scene, so even that could be improved.
(view spoiler)[
Hawk manifestly got hurt on his last mission in the war machine, possibly fifty-fifty because of a betrayel of his superiors, only nosotros don't e'er go any details on what really happened. His father and other higher ups are pressuring him to get back fast, merely he simply doesn't and nothing happens. What kind of aborted plotline is this?
(hide spoiler)]
So yep, I'm full of complaints, but I still loved reading it and I will continue this series. Don't judge.

Omegas Were Meant to Suffer
The Gentleman Alpha made the Omega unsure well-nigh after all he'd e'er known or experienced. This Alpha didn't acquit like all the other Alphas he'd encountered in his twenty years. Omegas Were Meant to Endure
The Gentleman Blastoff made the Omega unsure most later all he'd ever known or experienced. This Alpha didn't deport similar all the other Alphas he'd encountered in his twenty years. Those other Alphas were hard, mean, demanding, expecting omegas to be subservient. Compliant. Doing what they were told or suffering the consequences. Ensuring Omegas had no power or control causing anxiety and nervousness. Fear they might do something wrong. Always on edge. Life could be and had been miserable and frightening.
But the Omega luckily had an older Alpha blood brother who did his best to protect him, but who would protect the both of them confronting their father? That was something they had in common with the Shifter that gave them room & board in exchange for help on his Orchard.
They all had difficult military / law enforcement fathers. Uncompromising. With expectations that never seemed possible of being fulfilled. Alphas may take had more "power", but with power comes responsibleness. Some Alphas stepped up to the plate While others just used their power to subjugate others.
What I similar about this book also being the offset of a new series is that the author really divers her formulation of what Pack truly meant.

There's no cliffhanger, although in that location are obvious spaces for the next books to go. (Damon and Cass will need sweethearts, and at that place will probable be more characters coming from Hawk'south past.) I'm interested in seeing if Kyle has a office in their futurity, and how that might touch the Sheriff, merely all in good time.
I like this author for shifter mpreg and A/B/O worlds. At that place are almost always buckets of babies, fudge brownie levels of sweet, and at least a few opportunities for someone to roar protectively and take some swipes at a bad guy. I like that she doesn't feel the need to over-explain omega beefcake, and that in her world, the babies shift early and oft. I mean, it'south ambrosial. Poof! It'due south a baby hedgehog.

This was such an enjoyable volume. It made me have all the feels for Jesse. He had such a hard life and meeting Militarist changes information technology forever. They had a slightly bumpy start and Hawk was all over with his mixed signals.

This was a new to me author that I took a gamble on and I'm so happy I did. I'll go back and read the other books she has, as the characters pop upwardly in this one.
I must say, I'm familiar with alphas and omegas and oestrus cycle, merely the multiple pregnancy was new to me and gave the genre a refreshing feel. Although, poor Jesse. Ouch. I will say that the timeline gets slightly skewed after Jesse gives nativity, nosotros aren't certain exactly how much time has passed between nascence and the cease of the book. This could exist antiseptic in future books. The offset one-half was clearly divers and laid out in terms of time passing, the final scrap, non so much. This did non detract from the book for me.
I look forward to the side by side volume in this series.

I don't expect to love this book so much but I really do! Struggled betwixt a four and a five-star.It'due south tiresome-fire and lots of healing, which while is not commonly the genre I love nearly, made me feel so much for the MCs and therefore falling in dearest with their story.
Both MCs have their fair share of horrible babyhood/parenting and traumatic experiences, slowly learned to open their hearts to each other. That sexual activity scene though!!! That is the almost sensual and healing sex scene I've read in a while. I like how the writer portrayed sex activity, not as something to constantly button boundaries, merely something soul-fulfilling and about therapeutic.
It was likewise nicely wrapped up and making me desire to read more than, especially well-nigh how this pack will grow in the future.
Going to read the Lost Pack series next, which some characters from that pack are featured in this volume and I am interested in their pack'southward backstory. I dearest how the author depicts pack dynamics and I promise it won't disappoint me.

The whole omegas are worthless thing seemed forced. Why did the author decide this was the case? How are omegas different from females who acquit kids? Why is one less than the other? I didn't understand it so I didn't similar this attribute of the Jesse character.
Then there is the harvest thing at the end… so they merits it'southward very dangerous to have a pack be known by "others" so they only permit that fear get so they tin can bring it workers and it all just works? I don't buy information technology. Why bother with the it'southward unsafe crap when that didn't seem to be the case? I just think this booked needed more details ironed out.
Overall very very boring. Unless yous like a fatigued out pregnancy volume with lots of sleeping

The romance happens slowly over a few months, and their road to happiness is hampered by interfering parents and unexpected surprises.
I felt the pace was lovely in this: Claire knows what to go out out and what is important to develop the story (or her editor is a genius!).
Definitely looking frontwards to the new serial, to see how it links in with the war machine threats from the Lost Pack and besides to see who turns up to join Hawk's pack.
I always have the hardest struggle between non wanting to put her books downwards, and wanting to savour them for as long as I tin, I know I tin can devour them in 1 sitting because I want to know what happens, but I also know I take to wait at least some other month before I get a new one lol. For anyone who loves getting into a new series', and the slow development and attachment that comes from that, I highly recommend this writer's work!

I don't know what it is but I'g a sucker for scared omegas. It might be an overused trope but I don't care. I loved Jesse and Hawk. I dear Damon and Cass. I dear the babies. I didn't read any other series before this, so I'll have to check out the story of Brax. Simply this one was practiced. There are some loose ends, though. What almost Hawk and the military? I love books by this author. This was a sweet story, but to me it was predictable and bland. So many parts that could accept been made more than of. The ending seemed rushed. Several books I accept read by various authors lately seem rushed at the end. I call up stories are improve with loose ends tied up.
Jesse and his blood brother Damon were hiding from the alpha their father had sold him to. Hiding out on land owned by Hawk.
